Professional Biography
I often joke that I have enough hobbies for 50 people. Some of my interests include reading biographies, listening to music while in my art room, crocheting, sewing, painting – mostly watercolor, drawing, making jewelry, making cards and embroidery of towels and pillowcases. More recently, I have begun art journaling which is very satisfying as it can capture whatever emotions or even thoughts I’m having at that time. I have played sports throughout my life- love volleyball, racquetball, and indoor soccer. These days I stick mostly with brisk walking, biking or Pilates.
However, most of my time, when not working, is spent with my 6 children and 13 grandchildren. I am often at one of their events or helping with my 2 year old grandson who has severe spina bifida. They are all a joy to be with! When able, I spend time with my elderly aunt; we both enjoy working puzzles. I also love time with my 3 dogs!
All my higher education has been at University of Missouri-Kansas City. I started on a pre med major after high school while working in a doctor’s office. Then I took a break to raise a family yet stayed involved in healthcare by working as a labor coach and childbirth educator. After obtaining a BSN, I worked in ICU for two years at Truman Medical Center Lakewood then returned to get my MSN and began working as a Nurse Practitioner which I love. I have experience with geriatrics, primary care and endocrinology. It is most rewarding to have tools to help people improve their health. I love to learn and love to teach.
I am a member of the ANA/MONA, AANP, and Sigma Theta Tau International. I have volunteered in the community at various times at the American Stroke Foundation and developed a program to help elderly people develop and attain realistic life and health goals. Currently, I cannot be involved in many outside activities due to all the needs in my family.
